'Morning Haze in Chichester Harbour' Sir Frank Short RA, 1922
'Morning Haze in Chichester Harbour' Sir Frank Short RA, 1922
Aquatint print, plate no. XI, signed in Pencil, 11” x 14” (framed)
Sir Frank Short was a Royal Academician and one of the most influential British printmakers of the 20th century, reviving the methods of mezzotint and aquatint but also working with engraving, pencil and watercolour
This piece shows Short’s economic use of line and ability to create a sense of distance with subtle tonal washes and blank space. The strong sense of atmosphere and light in the piece is remarkable given it’s delicacy and minimalism
Framed in a solid wood, hand-painted ‘Tanner’s Brown’ bevelled frame with a smoke grey linen mount
